Last Dinner Out in Amarillo

For Victor's birthday we took him to the Amarillo Club.  Tonight he took us out and treated us to dinner, very nice of him to do this for us.  We will sure miss having him in our home, but I know his family must miss him terribly.

We made him a calendar with pictures from his year here in the states.

And of course he had to have caesar salad!

Texas (The Play)

Palo Duro Canyon is a national park and home to the amphitheater for the play Texas.  The play is about the settlers that came here I the late 1800's. They pushed out the Native American Indians, began separating ranches with barbed wire and saw the beginning of trains going through to California. 

The play has a huge lightning strike, ballet dancers, dancing fire and in this show a real fire that started from the fireworks.  We had to stay a little longer in the canyon for the fire department to get in and put out the blaze.

Big Texan

The Big Texan is a tourist trap in Amarillo, known for its 72 oz. steak challenge.  Tourists can attempt to eat a 72 oz. steak with a salad and baked potato in one hour and it is free. If they don't finish it costs them $72.00.  While we were there one person from California tried. 

Victor enjoys some cowboy tunes with a hint of a German connection. The song "Luckenbach Texas" a town named by a German settler.

Santa Fe, New Mexico

We all took a quick weekend trip to the historic mountain town of Santa Fe. 

Saw the Georgia O'Keefe musuem and a bunch of art galleries. Santa Fe has the most galleries outside of NYC.

Uncle Victor

In September Sarah and Micah told us that they were expecting. Then on May 23rd, Owen Jewett Ritchie made his debut. 

Tascosa's Prom

Victor, Paloma and Tara had dinner before the dance at Macaroni Joe's. They all had Lasagna. Then it was off to prom for dancing and chatting until midnight. 

A Day for Flying

It was an early morning wake up call to go flying at iFly.

To stay with the flying theme we went downtown and toured a coffee roasting company called Roasterie, they roast with 630 degree air. 

Time to get dressed up and go to Lawrence, home of the dirty bird, KU. Tara's cousin Kent finally got married at 50!!  Beautiful wedding, dinner and dance. Looking pretty spiffy Victor!

Kauffman Center

We took a tour of the Kauffman Center, which has two theatres. It was completed in 2011.

Boulevard Brewery/Nelson Atkins Museum

Thursday we took a tour of the local brewery that got its start in Germany. Good photo op of the city from the brewery.  Since it was St. Patrick's day we ate at the Dubliner, a pub in the Power and Light district. 

Most of the afternoon we spent at the Nelson Atkins Museum in the plaza area of Kansas City. Also the location of Victor's favorite, a candy store.
